Morning Has Broken - Arr. Bill Holcombe. (Musician Publications) ($30.00) (Grade 1.5) This title opens in the key of B-flat in 3/4 meter. The quarter note is equal to 108 beats per minute. The key changes to the key of C. An optional advanced trombone part is included. This title is in the Instant Band Series.
Song for the Winter Moon - Walter Cummings. (Grand Mesa) ($35.00) (Grade 1) This title opens in the key of E-flat. The meter is common time with the quarter note equal to 80 beats per minute. The tempo increases at measure 31 to 96 beats per minute. The key changes to the key of B-flat at measure 47 and the tempo changes back to the original 80 beats per minute.
American Visions - John Moss. (Hal Leonard) ($55.00) (Grade 3) This title is a medley of "Yankee Doodle", "Shenandoah", "Columbia, The Gem of the Ocean (The Red, White and Blue)", and "America, The Beautiful". The thirteen bar introduction has many meter changes going between the opening 4/4 meter and 3/4 meter. The opening key is B-flat with the key changing several times going to C, A-flat and ending in B-flat. The tempo changes frequently.
"Annabelles Wish," Selections from - Arr. Larry Clark. (Warner Bros.) ($60.00) (Grade 3) This medley is from the animated Holiday special "Annabelles Wish". The three titles featured are "The World From Way Up Here" - Steve Dorff and John Bettis; "Theres No Place Like Home" - Steve Dorff , Randy Travis and John Bettis; and "If You Believe" - Steve Dorff, John Bettis and Nancy Masters. The opening key is E-flat. The key changes near the end of this medley to F. The meter is 4/4 throughout. The tempo and style change several times. The flute has a solo near the end.
Atlantis - Louise Denny / Gordon Langford. (Bandleader Publications) ($47.50) (Grade 3.5) (Time 4:40) This concert march opens with no key signature, but does change to the key of G, and then changes to A-flat. It ends in the key of G. The meter is 4/4. This title is in the Concert Sounds Series from Bandleader Publications.
British Waterside ( Or The Jolly Sailor) - Percy Grainger and adapted for band by John Moss. (G. Schirmer) ($40.00) (Grade 3) This title is in the key of E-flat. The meter is 9/8 with the dotted quarter note equal to 116 beats per minute.
The Castle - Eric Osterling. (Hal Leonard) ($55.00) (Grade 3) This title was commissioned by the A.D. Oliver Middle School Band, Brockport New York, Nancy Nartwick, Director. It opens in the key of A-flat, with several key changes going to B-flat, then to F and finally ending in A-flat. There are many accidentals throughout. The oboe, cued in the trumpet, has a solo in the opening. The French horn, cued in the alto saxophone, is also featured with a short solo.
A Cornish Overture - David Harris. (Bandleader Publications) ($71.80) (Grade 3.5) (Time 6:00) This title is a Fantasy Overture. The opening does not use a key signature. A key is finally opened at measure 122 to the key of A. It then changes several times going to B-flat, then to C, returning to B-flat and then to C again. The opening meter is 4/4 with the quarter note equal to 80 beats per minute. There is a 6/8 dance-like section.
Crosswinds - Bruce Fraser. (Bandleader Publications) ($71.80) (Grade 3) (Time 10:00) This title is a concert suite in three movements. It may be performed in its entirety or as three separate pieces. None of the movements use a key signature, and the accidentals are written as needed. The first movement opens in 4/4 meter with the quarter note equal to 96 beats per minute. The meter changes to 6/8 with the tempo also changing. The second movement is in 3/4 meter with the quarter note equal to 120 beats per minute. The third movement is in 2/4 meter with the quarter note equal to 116 beats per minute.
The Good Old USA - Arr. James Christensen. (Hal Leonard) ($50.00) (Grade 3) This title was commissioned for the Arizona Symphonic Winds by Laszlo Veres, Conductor. It is a medley of 8 tunes: "A Bicycle Built For Two", "The Surrey With the Fringe On Top", "In My Merry Oldsmobile", "Seventy-Six Trombones", "This Land Is Your Land", "When the Saints Go Marching In", Youre A Grand Old Flag", and "Marys A Grand Old Name". This medley goes through several key changes using the keys of F, A-flat, and D-flat. The meter also changes several times from the opening 4/4 meter. The other meters used are 3/4, 6/8 and cut time.
A Salute to Spike Jones - Arr. Calvin Custer. (Hal Leonard) ($55.00) (Grade 3.5) This title features "Cocktails for Two", "Chloe", and "Poet and Peasant Overture". The opening key is B-flat. The key changes to A-flat and then returns to B-flat. The opening meter is 4/4, but changes to 2/4 and returns to 4/4.
Streets of London (Symphonic Suite) - Bill McGillivray. (Bandleader Publications) ($96.10) (Grade 3.5) (Time 17:45) This title is composed in five movements; each movement describing a different area of London. None of the movements use a key signature, and there are many accidentals. The meters used include 4/4, 12/8, 6/8, 2/4, and cut time. This title is in the Heritage Series.
Sun Dance - Frank Ticheli. (Manhattan Beach) ($75.00) (Grade 3) (Time 5:00) This title was commissioned by the Austin Independent School District for the Silver Anniversary of the 25th Annual All-City Band Festival. This title is in the key of F with many accidentals. It opens in 4/4 meter with the quarter note equal to 132 to 138 beats per minute. There are some meter changes going to 3/4 and returning to 4/4. The oboe, alto saxophone and trumpet each have solos.
Windom Ridge Rhapsody - Lennie Niehaus. (TRN) ($50.00) (Grade 3) This title is a large rondo song form (ABACA). It opens in the key of E-flat, but changes keys several times going through F minor, D-flat, B-flat and ending in E-flat. The meter also changes frequently opening in 4/4, and changing back and forth between 2/4 and 4/4. The trumpet has a solo in the minor key section.
Hoe Down from "Rodeo" - Aaron Copeland / Quincy C. Hilliard. (Boosey & Hawkes) ($85.00) (Grade 5) (Time 3:00) This title is in the key of E-flat in 2/4 meter. There are some short meter changes to 3/4 and back again to 2/4. The trumpet has a short solo.
Oklahoma - Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and music by Richard Rodgers, selections for orchestra arranged by Robert Russell Bennett and adapted for concert band by R. Mark Rogers. (Hal Leonard) ($95.00) (Grade 5) (Time 13:30) This rather long orchestral adaptation of the Broadway musical makes suggested cuts if the performers deem it necessary. It opens with no key signature. It does however add a key signature at measure 57. It changes key at least 11 times going through some keys more than once. The keys used are F, C, E-flat, and A-flat. The meter likewise changes often opening with 2/4 and going through 2/4, 4/4, 6/8 and cut time. This arrangement uses a large instrumentation including a harp.
The Perfect Fool (Music from the Ballet) - Gustav Holst / Michael Short. (Bandleader Publications) ($104.20) (Grade 5) (Time 10:00) This title opens in 3/4 meter. The quarter note is equal to 72 to 76 beats per minute. There are many meter and tempo changes. The meter changes go through 9/8, 7/8, 1/4, and 3/8. There is no key signature and there are many accidentals written throughout. The trombone is featured in a short solo. This title is in the Heritage Series.
Procession to the Cathedral, "Gesegnet soll sie schreiten" from Lohengrin - Richard Wagner / Merlin Patterson. (TRN) ($70.00) (Grade 5) This title, also known as "Elsas Procession", opens in the key of E-flat, changing to the key of E and returning to E-flat. The conductors score is written on extra large oversized paper.
