• Christmas Greetings - Michael Story. (Belwin) ($30.00) (Grade 1) This title features "Up On the Housetop", and "Good King Wenceslas". It is in the key of G in 4/4 meter. The quarter note is equal to 112 beats per minute. An optional 2nd violin or treble clef viola part is included. A piano part is also included. The piano has a two measure solo introduction.

• Dorchester Street Songs - Gregg A. Porter. (Kjos) ($35.00) (Grade 1.5) (Time 5:25) This composition was the "1995 National School Orchestra Composition Winner". Its two movements were "named for streets near the University of Chicago Laboratory School in Hyde Park".
  1. Hyde Park Dance is in the key of D in 4/4 meter. The opening tempo is marked at 112 beats per minute. The tempo slows at measure 35 to 66 beats and then increases again to 120 beats per minute at measure 44.
  2. Kimbark Song is also in the key of D. The meter is 4/4 with the opening tempo at 132 beats per minute. The tempo slows to 66 beats and then increase at measure 49 to 136 beats per minute.

• Easy Rockin’ - Bob Lowden. (Northeastern) ($35.00) (Grade 1.5) (Time 1:44) This work is in the key of D. The meter is 4/4 with the quarter note equal to 100 beats per minute. An optional piano and optional drum set part are included. Also included is a T.C. viola or 3rd violin part.

• I’ll Be Home For Christmas - Words by Kim Gannon, music by Walter Kent / Bob Cerulli. (Warner Bros.) ($30.00) (Grade 1) This favorite Christmas tune is in the key of D and there are some accidentals. The meter is 4/4. There is a repeated section.

• Mony, Mony - Bobby Bloom, Richie Cordell, Bo Gentry and Tommy James / Bob Cerulli. (Warner Bros.) ($30.00) (Grade 1) This rock "n" roll chart is in the key of D. There are some accidentals and a repeated section. It is in 4/4 meter.

• Sonatine - Elliot Del Borgo. (Kjos) ($35.00) (Grade 1.5) (Time 2:50) This title is in Classical style. It is in the key of D in 4/4 meter. The quarter note is equal to 116 beats per minute. There are some accidentals. An optional piano part is included. A 3rd violin (T.C. Viola) part is also included.

• Triptych - Michael Story. (Belwin) ($30.00) (Grade 1.5) Triptych is in the key of E minor. It is in 3/4 meter with the quarter note equal to 120 beats per minute. An optional 2nd violin part or treble clef viola part is included.

• Christmastide - Arr. Elliot Del Borgo. (Kjos) ($35.00) (Grade 2) (Time 5:00) This Christmas tune features: "Once in Royal David’s City", "We Three Kings", and "Angels We Have Heard On High". It is in the key of G and opens in 4/4 meter. The meter changes at measure 33 to 3/4 and returns to 4/4 at measure 82. A 3rd violin (T.C. Viola) part is included.

• Dance Diabolique - Jared Spears. (Kjos) ($35.00) (Grade 2.5) (Time 3:00) This composition was composed to introduce the "20th century harmonies and colors" to young string players. There is no key signature, but there are some accidentals written. The meter is 4/4 with the quarter note equal to 120 beats per minute. There are some brief changes to 3/4 meter. A 3rd violin (T.C. Viola) part is included.

• Latino Laura - Darrell Holt. (Northeastern) ($35.00) (Grade 2) (Time 2:30) This composition is in the key of A, with some accidentals. The meter signature is 4/4 with the quarter note equal to 120 beats per minute. Optional parts for double bass, piano and drum set are included. There also is a T.C. viola or 3rd violin part.

• Lift-Off - Richard Bell. (Kjos) ($35.00) (Grade 2) (Time 2:30) This piece is programmatic depicting a shuttle lift-off with program notes by Kevin Chilton, Commander of Space Shuttle Mission STS-76. It is in the key of D. There are some accidentals throughout. The meter is 4/4 with the opening tempo marked at 84 beats per minute. The tempo increases to 120 beats per minute at measure 9. A 3rd violin (T.C. Viola) part is included.

• Pizzicato Rock - Donald Josuweit. (Northeastern) ($35.00) (Grade 2) (Time 3:00) This title is in the key of D. The meter signature is 4/4 with the quarter note equal to 100 beats per minute. The "Dance" is in 4/4 meter with the quarter note equal to 132 beats per minute. There is only one violin part. A treble clef viola part is included which may be used as a 2nd violin part. There is no string bass part. An optional piano part is included.

• A Tender Moment - Darrell Holt. (Northeastern) ($35.00) (Grade 2.5) (Time 3:40) This work is a "jazz ballet" in the key of F. The meter is 3/4. The quarter note is equal to 60 beats per minute. Optional parts for piano, drum set and bells are provided. A T.C. viola or 3rd violin part is also included.

• Them and Us - John Lloyd. (Kjos) ($35.00) (Grade 2) (Time 4:10) This title is "a friendly musical contest between the upper strings and the lower strings" It is in the key of G with a meter signature of 4/4. The quarter note is equal to 112 to 120 beats per minute. A piano part is included and is provided as an integral part of the performance.

• Two Moods in the Morning - Robert S. Frost. (Kendor) ($35.00) (Grade 2) (Time 4:10) This title is in the key of C. The opening meter is 4/4. The meter changes for the second "mood" to 3/4. The opening tempo is 76 beats per minute. The tempo for the second mood is 144 beats per minute. There is only one violin part. • Desert Chimes - Doris Gazda. (Kjos) ($35.00) (Grade 3) (Time 3:00) This title is in the key of D in 3/4 meter. The tempo is marked at 72 beats per minute. An optional chime part is included with suggestions on use. A 3rd violin (T.C. Viola) part is included.

• Gymnopedie No. 1 - Erik Satie / Robert Klotman. (Kjos) ($35.00) (Grade 3) (Time 2:45) The key is D in 3/4 meter. The quarter note is equal to 92 beats per minute. There is an optional harp and/or piano part. A 3rd violin part (T.C. Viola) is also provided.

• Kaleidoscope - Joshua Missul. (Kjos) ($35.00) (Grade 3) (Time 2:30) This title is a "panoply of rhythms, colors and moods". It opens in the key of C, but changes keys several times going to the key of A and then returning to the key of C at measure 31. The meter likewise changes from the opening 5/8 (in 2), to 7/8 (in 3), back to 5/8, then 4/4 and finally to 6/8. There also is a measure of 3/4 inserted. A 3rd violin (T.C. Viola) part is included.

• Modus a A - Shirl Jae Atwell. (Kjos) ($35.00) (Grade 3) This title is the "1996 National School Orchestra Association Composition Contest Winner". It is in the key of C, but there are some accidentals. The meter is 3/4 with the quarter note equal to 104 beats per minute. A 3rd violin (T.C. Viola) part is included.

• Sonata in D Major (Originally for 2 Violins and Continuo) - Guiseppe Tartini / Kirt N. Mosier. (Kjos) ($38.00) (Grade 3.5) (Time 7:00) This composition follows the original 2 violin parts closely and realizes the continuo. The violas are divided into 2 parts, and the cello and bass double. A 3rd violin (1st T.C. Viola) part and a 2nd B.C. Viola part are included. Each of the three short movements are in the key of D. The first movement is in 8/8 meter with the eighth note equal to 96 to 104 beats per minute. The second movement is in 3/4 while the third movement is in 4/4 meter.

Grade 4 & 4.5

• Bacchanale from "Samson and Delilah" - Camile Saint-Saens / Gregg A. Porter. (Kjos) ($38.00) (Grade 4.5) (Time 4:40) This title is in the key of F with some accidentals. The meter is 2/4. The quarter note is equal to 108 beats per minute. A castanets part, written in all the parts, is to be played at the discretion of the director.

• Brevard Sketches - Elliot Del Borgo. (Kjos) ($38.00) (Grade 4) (Time 5:40) This composition is "to the dedicated faculty and staff of the Brevard Music Center". The opening key is F in 4/4 meter. The quarter note is equal to 70 beats per minute. The key changes to A minor at measure 58. The tempo also increases to 140 beats per minute.

• The Dance of Iscariot - Kirt N. Mosier. (Kjos) ($35.00) (Grade 4) (Time 2:30) This title is in the key of G with some accidentals. The meter is cut-time. The quarter note is equal to 148 beats per minute. A 3rd violin (T.C. Viola) part is included.

• Drifen - Shirl Jae Atwell. (Kjos) ($35.00) (Grade 4) (Time 4:00) This title is the "1997 Texas Orchestra Directors Association Composition Contest Winner." It is in the key of C with some accidentals. The meter is 4/4 with the quarter note equal to 144 to 152 beats per minute.

• Ludwig’s Celebration - Ronald Bell, Claydes Smith, George Brown, James Taylor, Robert Mickens, Earl Toan, Dennis Thomas, Robert Bell, Eumir Deodato and Ludwig van Beethoven / Calvin Custer. (Warner Bros.) ($50.00) (Grade 3) This title is a novelty tune combining Kool and the Gang’s "Celebration" and Beethoven’s "Symphony #5". It is written in a bright rock with the quarter note equal to 144 beats per minute. The key is B-flat. There are many accidentals. Some sections are repeated and there is a D.S. al Coda.

Grade 4 & 4.5

• "Evita", Music from - Words by Tim Rice, music by Andrew Lloyd Webber / Calvin Custer. (Hal Leonard) ($70.00) (Grade 4) This composition opens in the key of G in 4/4 meter. The tempo is 92 beats per minute. The key changes several times going through C, back to G and finally to D. The meter also changes going into 2/4 very briefly and then back to 4/4. The tempo changes frequently also. A piano part is included and is important.

• In the Bleak Midwinter - Gustav Holst, setting by Robert W. Smith and string edited by Robert D. McCashin. (Belwin) ($60.00) (Grade 4) This title is in the key of E-flat. There are some accidentals throughout. The meter is 4/4 with the quarter note equal to 80 to 84 beats per minute. The clarinet, horn and trombone each have a solo. The woodwinds have a challenging part.
