- Anne L. Schelleng - Manager

A recent appointment to the Southern Music Company staff, Anne is former
Marketing Manager for Boosey & Hawkes, Inc. New York. Her twelve year tenure
with Boosey & Hawkes, encompassed a wide range of duties including sales,
marketing, inventory control, product development, and clinic and conference
work. Anne has worked with extensively with a variety of composers,
clinicians, and choral specialists, most notably Doreen Rao, Janet Galvan,
David Brunner, Stephen Hatfield, and Philip Tacka.
Anne has served as Industry Representative to the Organization of American
Kodály Educators from 1994 to 1997, as well as serving on the Board of
Directors of the Brooklyn Youth Chorus and the New Jersey Children's Choir. A
graduate of the Hartt School at the University of Hartford, Anne holds a
Bachelor's Degree in Applied Performance with a concentration in Computer
Science. She was a member of the Hartt Chamber Singers under the direction of
Dr. Gerry Mack and studied conducting with Stanley De Rusha and Dr. Pamela
Perry.
Anne currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Children's Chorus of
San Antonio and is a member of the San Antonio Symphony Mastersingers.

- Paul Kellar
- Has studied classical guitar at the University of Texas at San Antonio and jazz guitar
and theory at the Guitar Institute of the Southwest. Is self-taught in music theory,
composition, and arranging. He sings (bass) in the Sanctuary Choir at Northern Hills
United Methodist Church in San Antonio as well as assisting on the guitar. Has been
experimenting with home recording. He has been with Southern Music Company since 1994.

- Wayne Tucker - Manager
- Bachelor of Music Education from Abilene Christian University, Master of Music Education
from University of Missouri, Kansas City. Has 30 years experience as a band director from
the elementary through college level. Became Manager of the Band and Orchestra Department
in 1994.

- Jim Mahaffey
- Band Director for 34 years; elementary, Junior High, Senior High, and College levels.
Assistant Professor of Music at Troy State University, Alabama for 15 years. Arranger and
composer; works published with Hal Leonard, David E. Smith, Southern Music Company, ...
Played trumpet professionally with several "Big-Bands", including Tommy Dorsey,
Billy Butterfield, The June Christy Orchestra, and the Fred Waring
"Pennsylvanians".

- Gustavo (Gus) Cantu
- A product of the famed Golden Eagle Band in Brownsville, Texas, where he was named
outstanding band member and twice selected for the Texas All-State Band. He received his
Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Sam Houston State University where he was lead
clarinet in the Symphonic Band. While a student there he played professionally in the
Houston Municipal Band and the Houston Symphony. During the Viet Nam War, Mr. Cantu
enlisted in the U.S.A.F. and was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio
performing with the Air Force Band of the West. After that four year commitment, Mr. Cantu
began his professional life as a music educator in San Antonio. During his thirteen years
of teaching music at John Jay and Oliver Wendell Holmes High Schools, his concert bands
and jazz ensembles were consistent winners in competitions and often named "Best in
Class." Before retiring from teaching in 1994, Mr. Cantu spent ten years teaching
beginning and middle school bands at Zachry Middle School where his bands were frequently
awarded the Texas UIL Sweepstakes Award.

Book/Sheet Department
- George Garay - Manager
- Employed at Southern Music Company in June 1988. Small Business Management and Computer
major with 25 years experience in both wholesale and retail sales. Keyboard and
instrumental background; works with computers and MIDI applications. Involved with local
community theatre productions. Became Manager of Book and Sheet Departments in 1992.

- Jesse S. Orta
- Graduated from the Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia with
an Associates Degree. He spent four years as a member of the United States
Marine Corps Band at Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Georgia.
His primary instrument is percussion, and he serves as a consultant for
local high schools in San Antonio, Texas. He also performs with various
Jazz, Latin, and other style bands around the area.

School (1977). Assistant Professor of Music/ Director of Bands at South Plains College
(Levelland, TX) 1978-1985. Assistant Professor of Music/ Director of Bands at the
University of South Alabama (Mobile) 1987-1993. Member of symphony orchestras (Bassoon) in
Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, Roswell, San Angelo, Corpus Christi, Austin and others.
Appearances in music theater in San Antonio, Lubbock, Mobile. Works published by Boosey
and Hawkes, Ludwig, G & M Brand, and Southern Music Company.

- Renee Higgins
- Formal study of piano and oboe, studying with Barbara Brazil, Cecile Lagarene and
Charles Veazey. Attended schools in the Plano Independent School District in Plano, Texas-
performed on several drum lines. Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Texas;
North Texas Jazz Studies/ Lab Band Librarian (1987-1989). Band/ Orchestra representative
at Brook Mays Music Company, Dallas, TX (1989-1993). Has performed with the Denton
Community Orchestra, North Texas University and Concert Bands, Plano Community Band, San
Antonio Wind Symphony, USAA Band, others. Began employment at Southern Music Company in
1993; responsible for royalties, copyright and ASCAP registering, advertising, editing,
and maintaining the Southern Music Company complete catalog of publications.
